EDLD5366 Reflection Week 5

Self Assessment:
This assignment of developing a website put me in a “panic mode.”  I knew that I needed to work with four other individuals that I believed were much more knowledgeable when it came to technology.  I took on 2 pages and relied on my other teammates for advice and help.  Creating a page with an embedded video was something I had no idea how to do.  Thankfully, Ginger walked me through the steps and helped me feel accomplished.  In the, I was pleased with our site and I felt that we worked well considering we were many miles apart from one another.  We implemented the CRAP ideals that were put in place during week one (Jahn 2007).  I feel that if I had to do a task like this again, I would be able to successful and before this class I would have never thought this was possible.

Learn as a Learner:
Once I allowed my fears to subside, I searched the web for other pages.  I was seeking a “starting point” and looking for inspiration on my own two pages.  After reviewing several pages, I knew what I liked versus what I did not like.  I tend to lean more simplicity.  I like clean lines and simple alignments.  There were many pages that had information overload and too many graphics and I found them hard to understand, for me, personally.  My group worked well together and we all agreed on page lay-outs and designs.  We collaborated on ideas for one another's pages and helped out when needed.  Since this was not my area of strength, I relied on step by step instructions which helped me a great deal (CheekyMOnkee, 2011).
I truly believe that without the collaboration, I would have never been able to complete my page.  As educators, we have to be willing to constantly learn.  It’s our job and we can’t ever have too much knowledge.

Lifelong Learning Assessment:
“Reflection is considered an important aspect of teacher practice" (Cummings, 2012).  As a lifelong learner, I think it is imperative to reflect and have others reflect.  If I had to say whether I did a good job in this class, I would probably say “no,” but if I reflect on its entirety, I did learn a lot and have new, useful tools that can help me in the future.  Reflection can be simple, but if you really break it down, you can find strengths and weaknesses.  Reflecting allows you to learn more about yourself and show you areas of growth.  It’s a lot like journaling.  When I get an administrative job, I hope to reflect a few times a week.  At the end of the year, I think it would be entertaining to see what my fears were at the beginning versus what they are now.  It would also help me feel accomplished because it would chart my growth throughout the year.
